One of the most enjoyable things about my profession is when I get to spend a lot of time with a few horses, and see their full potential come out, without a time restriction. Horses seem to respond so much better when they can learn at their own pace.
This horse was picked up in trade for some colts that I had trained. He was a raw bone 2 year old, with a long ride start. After two years of working him at his pace, and giving him a purpose every time we went out, he has become that one of a kind horse, that is a joy to catch, saddle, and go do something on.
As a coming five year old, he has a great life ahead of him, and has done most of what you can ask a horse to do for you already. He is a “true” gentle horse. He is relaxed and responsive in every situation. I have ridden long, hard and rough miles on him, and he is as strong and willing coming in, as going out. We have roped and drug calves to the fire, sorted pairs in the pen and outside, and even roped and drug wild cows out of the brush on the Pecos River. Big Bob has been most useful as the number one pony horse, for starting and training on other colts we are working with. His calm, willing and athleticism has been invaluable this past year, in helping young colts accept the starting program here at Shiloh Quarter Horses. He is up for sale because this is our goal in the training business, to have a great 5 year old colt ready for someone to use and take to the next level.
